ALBUMS

Reflections is the latest album from Daryl Simpson and features great songs like ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘Everybody’s Talkin’, ‘Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow?’, and ‘Annie’s Song’. This is an easy listening album of classic tracks to sit back and relax to.
The album is produced jointly by Daryl and Brian McGrane and places the beautiful vocal front and centre. There are some exquisite arrangements bringing a new twist to some of these well-known songs reminding us of the well-crafted lyrics of writers such as Van Morrison, Billy Joel and Kris Kristofferson. Tracks like ‘You Needed Me’ and ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ feature the complementing acoustic guitars of Simpson and McGrane. Other moments feature the deft piano skills of Daryl in the likes of ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ and ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’.
There is a strong emotional narrative moving from love, ‘Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)’, to faith, ‘A Living Prayer’, and to loss, ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ which is tenderly captured by Daryl’s vocal. Enjoy this journey of hope, love and redemption.
‘Reflections was a real opportunity to look again at some of the great songs that I grew up with and to put my own spin on them. Arrangements like the one on ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ were already seasoned on stage and it felt like the right time to get this material down on a recording. Having Brian with me made it easy to get the vision of what I wanted this album to be. I guess years on the road together have formed an instinctive relationship which meant we could easily fill in the blank canvas once an idea took shape. Reflections will hopefully allow listeners to take their own meanings from these song versions. I’d hope it might even provoke a new thought on some of these great lyrics and melodies. It was my honour to record these songs and I hope listeners enjoy them and perhaps take time to sit with them and reflect.’
